Watergardens
For Queensland Investment Group, and working in conjunction with The Buchans Group and Darryl Coneybeare and Partners, Shook Kelley master planned and designed a major mixed-use entertainment project within the city of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia.
Located on a tract at the rear of an undistinguished mall, and centered on a new commuter rail station, the new town of Watergardens was designed to be the main focus of daily life for this sprawling, multicultural suburb. Not unlike authentic towns, a variety of “sectors” were established, ranging from upmarket owner-occupied housing along a new municipal park which had been created along a wetland area; to a state of the art entertainment district added to and inserted within the existing mall; to a vertically integrated town center focused upon the rail station.
Queensland Investment Group is one of Australia’s largest pension funds with a significant portfolio of commercial real estate. In addition to Watergardens, Shook Kelley has provided specialized consulting to the company regarding their Australian commercial properties, including conceptual master planning.
