Save

A vision – based upon local, historical precedents, upon a stewardship of the natural landscape, and upon cultural traditions – of what life can be in a changing and growing region.

Change, for Waxhaw, NC is inevitable. The question before the community is not, “Will we grow?” but rather, “How will we grow?” The Charlotte, NC region is one of the fastest growing regions of the country. For many of the surrounding communities, this growth has and will continue to be haphazard, with no vision of what the community can become. Oftentimes, communities become focused upon sheer numbers, such as density, commercial space, parking quotas, and even traffic counts, to guide their decision making process. While all of these issues can be important considerations, they alone will not determine the quality and value of the development that will occur. What is important is a vision – based upon local, historical precedents, upon a stewardship of the natural landscape, and upon cultural traditions – of what life can be in a changing and growing Waxhaw.

Shook Kelley, working with the site owner and the developer, developed a conceptual master plan and concept booklet to document and promote the vision of the village. This vision is one that knits together with the adjacent lands, that serves as a road map for the future, and that will ultimately add to the health and quality of the community of Waxhaw.
