Downtown Mint Hill, NC
City leaders in this small southern suburb of Charlotte sought to preserve open space while giving the town a clear identity through careful placemaking. The downtown core is situated around a 3-acre promenade leading to a new 20,000 square foot town hall.
The 50-acre development master planned by Shook Kelley includes a mix of residential – including town houses, condos and single family units – as well as retail, office and entertainment venues. The retail space is comprised of a supermarket, four restaurants and shops along the green. A 12-screen theater, 6,000-square-foot firehouse and 40,000-squarefoot YMCA compliment 66,500 square feet of offices spread over several parcels. The YMCA backs up to a nature green way with existing biking trail, walking paths and public parks.
