Twinbrook

Save

Twinbrook can become the place where the District of Columbia’s legacy of great urbanism and nature, in all of its manifestations, are woven together into one interlocking, supportive proposition. Connected to the great Rock Creek Park in both real and symbolic ways, Twinbrook will be known as the place where Ecology Matters In All Things.

Washington, D.C. is unique among the great American cities. Planned from it’s inception to be both practical and beautiful, it pairs human-scaled urbanism and nature in it’s many forms—squares, greens, malls and parks—to create neighborhoods that appeal to man’s social and contemplative needs. Coursing throughout the district is the Rock Creek Park, a flowing green wilderness the likes of which is not found in any city, anywhere. In our day and age, this unlikely combination is widely sought and highly valued by many. And, there is only one place in the greater metropolitan area where this dynamic exists untapped: Twinbrook.

Shook Kelley worked closely with The JBG Companies in Rockville to develop a brand vision and master plan for Twinbrook, a presently isolated and underdeveloped area of land in Rockville served by the METRO Rail Red line – into a complex, genuine, distinctive, known, and highly valued place – and one with the addition of great employment opportunities, better transit connections, retail and housing formats in tune with target markets’ expectations – can become a fortress real estate proposition. Employment in the sciences and related fields will be blended in a genuine, urban manner with housing, retail and entertainment choices – for those across the income spectrum that seek a healthy, active and/or multicultural lifestyle.

Twinbrook will be the place that offers both the security and lifestyle of a small community, along with excellent rail and auto connections to the greater Washington metropolitan area. To become this place, Twinbrook must be wrapped within, and orchestrated through, a brand-specific business model that is community based and owned.
